I Scream! You Scream! We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Noting that there's an ice cream shop on every corner in the Capital Region, we figured there must be something that we're missing out on.  So in the name of research, the Garrett's have ventured out and tried nearly every little stand that we've come know, just to check things out.  Gotta say, Guptill's Coney Express in Latham is one of our favorites!  People are freaks about soft serve ice cream around here and Guptill's does this "flavor burst" thing where just the edges of the soft serve are dipped in a flavor of your choice.  Not gonna lie, it is pretty good!

Don't get us wrong, back down South, we love ice cream just as much as the next guy...there's TCBY (Poplar Bluff, MO thought they were in some tall cotton when they got a mini mobile home that served as a franchise!), Dairy Queen, Andy's Frozen Custard and of course, the McDonald's vanilla cone!  But it doesn't seem as though ice cream really is the same kind of 'treat' down South as it is up here.  It's great and all, but you don't really see people standing a dozen deep in line when you drive by every stand you pass.

Suffering from those blistering hot upstate New York temperatures (insert sarcastic laugh here) the Garretts decided to take matters into their own hands.  We bought our own ice cream maker!  Actually, to clarify, it's the ice cream maker attachment for our Kitchen-Aid Mixer and it's Heaven sent!  We wasted no time whipping up our first batch of Kahlua flavored ice cream and while it took about 30 minutes longer to harden then what the directions recommended, it was wonderful!  So much fun too!  We were practically fighting over who got to push the buttons to make it go.  Now if we could only figure out the "flavor burst" secret...
