From Meanie Pants to Skinny Pants!

The Meanest Diet ever!
Accomplishing a goal has such a wonderful feeling!  Back on August 10th, Brett & Heather signed on for the worst 40 days of their lives!  The two joined forces to try the HC3 Trim Diet...which we quickly dubbed, "The Mean Diet."  Forty days of only 500 calories can make you a real pleasant person, plus the diet wasn't very forgiving.  We buckled down, threw out the junk food and started getting creative with the things we could eat and ended up tightening our belts a notch or two.

New favorite pair of jeans!
The Rolling Stones never could get satisfaction but Heather sure did when she actually tried on (and successfully fit into) jeans 4 sizes smaller than the last pair she bought!  Dropping 29 lbs. in the 40 day time period was one of the hardest food challenges she's faced, but there were nearly tears of joy in that dressing room.  Pretty sure a couple of the employees at the Gap were a little freaked out by the incident too.  Today the 'fat jeans' are packed up in storage, along with the 'skinny' and 'skinnier' jeans.  Heather is now choosing from her 'skinniest' collection of denim.

Surviving on 500 calories a day was super tough.  Our 40 day time period overlapped with our New Year's resolution of running a 5K every month.  Doing the August race in Altamont really caught us off guard.  Apparently, you do have to have some energy to get through things like that.  But it was the Warrior Dash at Windham Mountain that was like being on Survivor.  It was climbing through mud pits, swimming a freezing cold lake and jumping over fire on the 500 calorie regiment without an immunity idol.  At least those clowns are up for $1 million bucks!

The Mean Diet not only helped us turn ourselves in a new direction, it showed us how to live better.  We now keep portion sizes in check and are always reading nutritional information before buying anything (our grocery shopping time totally doubled!)  While we are now able to reintroduce ourselves to dairy, carbs and sugar there's not really a craving for any of those things.  Even though we get to eat the whole piece of chicken breast now, we still stick to lots of vegetables and really, really limited carbs.  It's sort of the mindset "We just worked so hard for this and we are not about to jeopardize it with those stupid breadsticks."

Even though we didn't hit the promised 40 lb. loss mark, we were pretty happy with our results! Together, we shed 49 pounds!  If you think you might be ready for a change, or just want some additional info on the HC3 Diet, give Heather's physician Dr. Carrie Carda a call at (573) 776-7393.

  5. I really did not like the fat loading part because I felt like I was starting off the diet in the wrong direction, but eat as much as you can stuff in your mouth...you'll be thankful later!

  7. I just came across your blog. You posted your results back in September. Have you maintained your weight loss? Thanks!

  8. We have stayed within a 7-9 lb. range from what we lost. It's hard to keep away from the carbs and sugar though! We still weigh in daily and try to really watch our portion sizes.

  9. Thanks for answering. I have been eating low carb for over two years, and I have no trouble staying away from sugar, once I found out how destructive it is in my body.

I have pretty much stopped when I still have 20 pounds of fat to lose, and low carb alone is not doing the trick, so I am considering hc3.

  10. I should have mentioned that the article above was written by Gary Taubes, the author of "Why We Get Fat" which I highly recommend. It talks about why it is not fat that causes weight gain, but carbs.
