Hometown Hoops: UAlbany Adventures

Brett's new blog with had us spending Friday night on the UAlbany campus.  The school goes by a couple of different names, so you might have heard it called SUNY, University at Albany or State University of New York at Albany.  The college enrolls about 13,000 undergraduate students and nearly 5,000 graduate students, so it's a little bit smaller than where we both went (Missouri State University & East Carolina University).

UAlbany took on Cornell at the SEFCU Arena.  We were really holding out hope that Andy Bernard and Here Comes Treble would perform at halftime, but no such luck.  But we did get to see the UAlbany school spirit up close!  The Great Danes were bathed in purple and gold and a nearly packed house was there to cheer on the team in their men's basketball season opener.  Plus, the cheerleaders had a great t-shirt gun that could really fire!  They had half the crowd clothed by the time the game was over.

UAlbany has competed in the America East Conference (we forget there are teams outside the SEC sometimes) since 2001.  Last year they went 7-25 and they have big hopes for a better season this year.  Unfortunately, they lost this one 65-61, but it sure was an exciting game!

It was fun to get to watch live sports again and we enjoyed being back in the exciting atmosphere of athletics!  Brett mentioned several times that Heather's photography skills were not up to his standards...and she promptly told him if he wanted better pictures, he should take them himself.  Hopefully, our photos will get better throughout the season and we'll be sure to let you know who snapped the better shot.

We are looking forward to watching (and Brett covering) a great season of Hometown Hoops!
