Movie Review: It's a Fun Trip to "Cedar Rapids"

If the business convention culture met The Hangover and had a baby...it would be Cedar Rapids.

We've never been to Cedar Rapids...or Iowa for that matter...but if it's half as fun as the same named film, we're on board!  A surprise hit at Sundance this year, Cedar Rapids stars Ed Helms as man/boy insurance salesman Tim Lippe who has never left his small hometown in Wisconsin.

Lippe steps up to the plate in the insurance "big leagues" after his boss dies in an auto-erotic asphyxiation accident and heads to Cedar Rapids for an annual insurance convention.  Charged with the task of winning the "two diamond" award, Lippe experiences life for the first time...flying on a plane, staying at a hotel and knocking back shots of creme sherry.  His convention veteran counterparts (played by John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) show him the convention ropes.

Two tickets to Cedar Rapids please!
The film is paced well and has a solid storyline with plenty of laughs sprinkled in.  Sigourney Weaver shines in her small role as Lippe's girlfriend and if you're a fan of HBO's The Wire, you'll get a kick out of Whitlock's character.  Be sure to stick around for the credits!

Rated "R" for content, you won't see much of the real Cedar Rapids in the movie.  Rather, it was filmed in Ann Arbor, Michigan...but it looks like Cedar Rapids will be getting all the glory.

We can tell you that Helms survives this movie with all of his teeth in tact, but we'll be honest...this film marks the first time we've actually missed some of the dialog because people were laughing so loud!

This flick is totally worth two bags of honey roasted peanuts:
