It's County Fair Time!

Seems like one of the best things about living in the South is county fair time!  It's a chance for folks to show off their famous pies, beautiful quilts and canned goods.  Normally the Butler County Fair in Poplar Bluff, Missouri is held in the dead of August, when the temperatures are in the solid triple digits.  This year, fair organizers moved the annual event to lapse over the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Heather's mom Phyllis has been on the fair board in Butler County for years and has always managed to sneak something in to the fair competition with Heather's name on it.  Last year Heather's baby quilt won a white ribbon in the 'miniature quilt' division!

Since we were back home in Missouri for this year's Butler County Fair, Heather actually got a say in what she entered.  With no new sewing projects completed, the photography division seemed like a safe bet.

Unfortunately, Heather's picture of Kung Fu Panda from the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade came home empty handed...

But look at what picture snapped on Brett & Heather's Memorial Day in Maine trip won a white ribbon!

White ribbon in "seascapes" photography division!
There were plenty of ribbons to go around this year...

Phyllis even got in on the action with her notorious scrapbooks...she scored a blue ribbon for the one of Heather as a kid (look closely-that's Heather with the horribly permed hair)!

And Phyllis' scrapbook page featuring her letter for High School cheer leading snagged a white ribbon.

Maybe we shouldn't get the big head too soon for all of the ribbons scored by the Flanigan women though...It looked as though the judges were being pretty generous.
